PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER I - BAY AREA DISTRICT - CANDLESTICK POINT STATE RECREATION AREA

The reporting location for this position is Candlestick Point State Recreation Area Offices at 1150 Carroll Ave, San Francisco, CA.

Under the supervision of the Staff Park & Recreation Specialist, the Park Maintenance Worker I will perform skilled and semi-skilled structural and facility maintenance and repair work in carpentry, painting, plumbing, trail work, roadwork, and landscaping. This position performs general landscaping tasks such as planting, weeding, cultivating, irrigating, pruning, mowing, raking, and removal of dead or unwanted vegetation This position may act as a lead for Park Maintenance Assistants, Seasonal Employees, alterative work program participants, California Conservation Corp crews, and various volunteers. This position maintains the highest standards of cleanliness for all park facilities and public use areas, including campsites, chemical toilets, picnic sites, comfort stations, work areas, and administrative buildings. This position assists with estimates and purchases materials and supplies. This position keeps records and prepares reports as required. This position may also work in any of the other units covered by the Bay Area District as duties require.

The incumbent’s work schedule will be Sunday-Thursday, 8:00am to 4:30pm.

Training and Development Assignments may be considered.

Per California Code of Regulations (CCR) , this is a sensitive position, and therefore subject to drug and alcohol testing. It should be noted that testing is not mandatory, but is allowed to be conducted only if and when there is a determination of reasonable suspicion as defined in CCR .

This position is currently eligible for a Recruitment and Retention pay differential for the Greater Bay Area. This pay differential is five percent (5%) of the base pay for each qualifying pay period and is in addition to the posted monthly salary range.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

This classification is subject to the Post and Bid process. Applications from a certification list, transfer change in class, reinstatement, re-employment, and training and development assignment candidates will be accepted for this position but consistent with the MOU/Bargaining Agreement BU12/13 contract cannot be acted upon unless the Post & Bid process does not result in a hire.

Working Conditions

Typical work activities involve frequent periods of standing, bending, stooping and lifting. Perform indoor and outdoor work often in inclement weather. May have extensive exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises. Frequent walking on even and uneven surfaces. Works from elevated surfaces, such as from ladders or scaffolding. May work in remote locations or confined spaces.
