Today's dynamic global security threats require solutions both big and small - solutions living within the Northrop Grumman Microelectronics Center (NGMC). One of our most challenging new fields is Microelectronics Design and Applications (MDA), which combines the unique properties of superconductivity and quantum mechanics to develop radical new energy-efficient computing systems. MDA is seeking an Experimental Test Physicist to join our team and develop these technologies into high-performance computing systems. You'll work in a fast-paced team environment alongside physicists, design engineers, and superconducting foundry engineers to make these technologies a reality.

What You'll Get to Do:
  • Support test operations and test development activities by ensuring that the labs and systems are test ready, specifically for superconducting electronics test environments.
  • Operate a test platform in a laboratory setting with the goal of collecting high quality data.
  • Push the capabilities of the test platform hardware and software to meet the needs of our customers.

This position will serve on-site at our Advanced Technologies Laboratory located in Linthicum, MD.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Completed Bachelors of Science degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) with 2 years of relevant technical experience experience; Completed Master's degree in a STEM field with 6+ months of relevant technical experience.
  • Experience supporting the general upkeep of electrical test labs and systems.
  • Hands-on experience with common laboratory hardware, such as voltage and current supplies, oscilloscopes, arbitrary waveform generators, or RF sources
  • Experience with writing MATLAB and/or Python code for either interfacing with equipment or analyzing data
  • Proficiency in basic circuit analysis and troubleshooting
  • Working in a team environment to tackle challenging problems
  • This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. citizen.

  • Clearance: Candidate must be able to maintain a US Government security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity working with cryogens, Liquid Helium and Nitrogen.
  • Experience interfacing with test lab equipment through custom software
  • Experience working with superconducting electronics
  • Experience working with digital signal processing
  • Experience writing in a version-controlled, OOP-based codebase in Python or MATLAB
  • Strong analytic skills and familiarity in performing statistical analysis
  • Ability to adjust to changing priorities and requirements
  • Experience with diverse teams tackling large, challenging issues
  • Active US Government security clearance

Primary Level Salary Range: $85,400.00 - $128,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
